Join The Leakey Foundation’s Young Professionals Group for the exclusive premiere of sculptor Elisabeth Daynès’ newest exhibition Find Yourself at the provocative Gallery 836M. At this VIP reception you’ll meet the artist herself and learn about the evolutionary roots that inspired this exhibit with Dr. Leslea Hlusko.
About Find Yourself: Art and Science Connect
Elisabeth Daynès uses her world-renowned work recreating the bodies of the prehistoric ancestors in her new exhibit “Find Yourself” to reflect on the appearance today and in the future. Her work demonstrates that we are not the apex of evolution, nor are we the only possible humanity. We were once diverse, and we again become diverse. Through science, which feeds much of the imagination, “Find Yourself” takes us on a voyage through time.
In addition to viewing this spectacular exhibition, you will mix and mingle with other young professionals, enjoy complimentary wine and cheese, take a picture in the GIF photo booth, or take a selfie with a life-sized recreation of the famous fossil “Lucy.”
Paleoanthropologist Dr. Leslea Hlusko will give a short talk exploring what makes us human and how understanding the evolutionary roots help better understand oneself.
About Dr. Leslea Hlusko
Paleoanthropologist Leslea Hlusko is professor of integrative biology and associate director of the Human Evolution Research Center at UC Berkeley. She studies the genetic and developmental basis of variation in the skeletons of mammals. Her work incorporates genetics, behavior, and the fossil record to understand these variations and reconstruct genetic evolutionary histories. She received Leakey Foundation funding for her fieldwork at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania and the Middle Awash in Ethiopia.
