Friday Nights at the de Young the museum stays open late and hosts all sorts of interesting events, concerts, art projects and lectures. Although regular admission prices still apply to visit the museum’s galleries, all of the events below are in the public spaces of the museum are completely free and open to the public
Live Arabic Music: Ajyal is a newly formed group of prominent Bay Area Arab and American musicians who share a passion for Arabic music. The Arabic word ajyal means “generations.”
Rachel Brice’s Vintage Oriental Belly Dance complements Ajyal’s repertoire. In 2003 she was discovered by rock mogul Miles Copeland and began touring internationally with his company, Bellydance Superstars. Currently she teaches classes in her hometown of Portland, Oregon, leads workshops abroad, and tours with the Indigo Belly Dance’s full-length ragtime-vaudevillian extravaganza, Le Serpent Rouge.

Make your own belly dance costume belt, a project for girls, boys, men, and women – Make a belt and watch black-and-white movie clips of Egyptian dancers of the Golden Age of Egyptian cinema. Undecorated belts will be provided in small, medium, and large sizes.
