Join Chef Junsoo Bae of the hot new Korean restaurant in SF, SSAL, as he shares his family’s favorite Chuseok meal — galbi-jjim (Korean braised short ribs), made with chestnuts and other seasonal local produce.

Junsoo is a native of South Korea who started his career at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, NY. While at the CIA, Junsoo served as the President of the Korean Association (KACIA). In 2012, he participated in the Bocuse d’Or USA, a biennial chef championship. Junsoo started his professional kitchen career at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, then traveled to Denmark, where he worked at Noma, famous for the world’s most defined cuisine. He continued to hone his skills at Gramercy Tavern in NYC and The Restaurant at Meadowood in Napa Valley.

Junsoo opened SSAL in San Francisco in early 2019 with his wife Hyunyoung, who has worked at The French Laundry, Bouley and Gramercy Tavern. SSAL is a restaurant that serves “Beyond the Boundary of Korean Cuisine.”
