Indie Folk DIY Creative Use Activites

Explore the DIY, creative reuse, and mixed media aesthetic of Indie Folk: New Art and Sounds from the Pacific Northwest. Developed in collaboration with local artists, activations include:

  • Scrappy and Salvaged Baskets | Inspired by Indie Folk artist Marita Dingus’s basket series, Ramekon O’Arwisters and Tanya Herrera enlist the art of finger crocheting to create unconventional vessels.
  • Memory Pods | Priyanka Rana makes memories tangible, inviting all to participate in creating a touchable sculpture to travel with the Mobile MakeArt van.
  • Vitreous Vessels | This project uses glass etching to give a Cappy Thompson-aesthetic to glassware donated by local businesses Souvla and Ungrafted.

Mr. Roboto Activations

Explore cobot (collaborative robot) art through Mr. Roboto MakeArt activations:

  • Cobot Calligraphy | Co-authored by Jojo Liu, this MakeArt project teaches basic Chinese calligraphy while elegantly exploring Mr. Roboto’s letterforms.
  • A Robot Made It, First | Rae Lanzerotti’s tactile, robotic translations challenge participants to reinterpret 3D-printed textiles.,
  • Tasteful Taxidermy | Make your own ‘taxidermy’ puppets as inspired by the Mr. Roboto-featured stop-motion short film Roadkill Jamboree.
