Bill Graham 2014 Menorah Day Festival, Performing Pups & Jewish Jam Band | Union SquareCelebrate Hanukkah 2014 with the 40th annual lighting of the 25 foot tall mahogany Bill Graham Menorah in Union Square.

Lighting ceremonies take place from Tuesday, December 16-23, 2014, at approximately 5 pm on most days (Friday is at 3 pm and Saturday is at 7 pm). This San Francisco tradition, the brainchild of rock and roll concert promoter Bill Graham, begun in 1975.

Bill Graham 2014 Menorah Day Festival, Performing Pups & Jewish Jam Band | Union Square“Bill Graham Menorah Day” in Union Square is a full day festival that features arts, crafts and activities for kids, plus Jewish music, all capped off with the lighting of a giant 25-foot tall mahogany menorah in the middle of the square.

Starting at 2 pm, there will be crafts and kids’ activities with a special appearance by Olate Dogs, performing pups and winners of America’s Got Talent. Stay for the lighting ceremony of the fifth candle of Chanukah and a musical performance by the Jerry’s Kosher Deli, performing the music of Jerry Garcia, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, Bob Marley, and others with a Jewish Jam twist. Plus hear performances by kids from Everybody is a Star, a project providing young people with disabilities opportunities to use their creativity and shine.

Participating in the lighting will be long time Bill Graham colleagues Ray Etzler, Danny Scher, David Mayeri, Bonnie Simmons, Brian Auger and Morty Wiggins.
