On Saturday July 28, 2012, come out for the Second Annual Throw Down for the Town: The Oakland Service Festival. Last year, over 300 people volunteered at 25 service projects throughout Oakland. This event is about our city coming together to transform neighborhoods and help Oakland thrive.
This year, they have more than 30 inspiring and engaging service projects confirmed and the goal is to have over 500 volunteers. The projects range from community gardening, cleaning up litter, and painting schools.
There will be service projects from 10am to 1pm throughout Oakland followed by a community festival from 12:30pm – 3:30pm at Snow Park (19th Street and Harrison Street, Oakland). The festival will feature music by Hip-hop artist Mystic, an award-winning and well-known Oakland native, as well as other local musicians, food, community organizations, and fun. Email Alicia for any questions at aliciac@ellabakercenter.org.
