Kneeling 4 Justice in Honor of George Floyd
- Date: Monday, June 1, 2020
- Location: San Francisco City Hall (outside, Polk Street side)
- Time: 11am
- Sponsor: Wealth and Disparities in the Black Community, Phelicia Jones, Founder.
Come and Kneel with us. Socially Distanced Protest (outside, 6’+ apart, wearing masks) Wealth and Disparities in the Black Community has been fighting for Justice for Black people since the 2015 killing of Mario Woods by San Francisco police. Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49’ers took a knee to protest the firing-squad style murder of Mario Woods.
This Monday we take a knee to honor George Floyd, known as Floyd to his friends – who was murdered by racist police in Minneapolis.
Wealth and Disparities in the Black Community kneel to demand:
- Murder charges for the four Minneapolis police officers who murdered George Floyd: Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng;
- Bob Kroll, head of the Minneapolis Police Union step down. Kroll has pushed training of brutal tactics of the kind seen on the video of the murder of George Floyd, even though that training and those practices had previously been banned by the City and Mayor of Minneapolis;
- San Francisco Supervisor Sandra Fewer and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors (BOS) hold the SFPD accountable to overturn its own racist practices. Supervisor Fewer started but has not followed through on her role in overseeing SFPD’s compliance with 272 US Department of Justice mandated reforms. She called a hearing October 2019, the first in over a year, and has since done nothing to continue the oversight process. We demand she and the BOS see this critical process through;
- Justice, equity and equality for all Black San Franciscans.
