San Francisco will welcome over 200 couples to be wed in a special LGBTQ+ Pride marriage celebration at City Hall.
Tomorrow, City Administrator Carmen Chu and the Office of the County Clerk invite you join in a special LGBTQ+ Pride marriage celebration ahead of the world-famous San Francisco Pride Parade and Celebration.
On Friday, June 28, the Office of the County Clerk will marry over 200 couples at City Hall in a festive celebration of San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ history and culture. Newlywed couples will receive commemorative Pride marriage licenses and take photos in a photo booth in the North Light Court of City Hall.
The Office of the County Clerk has played a historic role in San Francisco’s actions to achieve marriage equality for people of all genders and sexual orientations. In 2004, under the direction of then-Mayor Gavin Newsom, the County Clerk’s Office issued its first same-sex marriage license. When California resumed same-sex marriages in 2013, the Office of the County Clerk and the Office of the Assessor-Recorder, led by then-Assessor Carmen Chu, worked throughout the weekend so that couples did not have to wait a minute longer for the same rights others experience.
