SF’s First Topless Club Might Become an Official “Legacy Business”
Thanks to Eater SF for sharing the news that San Francisco’s first topless club, which is possibly the very first topless bar in the country, is pushing to become an official legacy business.
The “first original gentleman’s club in the US,” the Condor Club opened in North Beach in 1964 and was home to the legendary dancer Carol Doda. The business is hoping an official recognition honoring its history will help bring more customers through the doors. Plus the designation comes with additional perks such as a grant for rent stabilization, and marketing.
The Historic Preservation Commission unanimously voted to advance the measure to the Small Business Commission for approval. If approved, it’d be the first adult entertainment business to be recognized with legacy status.
To qualify for legacy status, a San Francisco business must be in continuous operation for 30 years. Plus, the business must be nominated by a district supervisor.
