SF’s North Beach Has a Brand New Jazz Club
Thanks to Datebook for sharing the news that San Francisco’s one-time jazz capital, North Beach, will once again have a jazz club.
The 4,000 square-foot Keys Jazz Bistro or “Keys,” located at 498 Broadway, hosts its grand opening on Thursday, November 10, 2022 with the exclusive one-time-only musical pairing of vocalists Mary Stallings and Clairdee. The Grand Opening festivities will continue with two-nights of special musical collaborations and concerts that honor the past, present, and future of jazz and live music in San Francisco and beyond.
Keys is located in the same building that was once the home of El Matador, the 1950s nightclub run by the legendary Barnaby Conrad and presented the biggest names in jazz.
The nightclub will present music and dinner four nights a week with two sets and two seatings, three sets on Friday and Saturday. The intent of Keys Jazz Bistro is to create and celebrate community around the artform and culture of jazz music, to support artists at all stages of their pursuits, and to create a sanctuary – a secular church – where artists and listeners connect in the moment as they share music, food and drink together.
Keys draws inspiration from the past, present, and future of live music in San Francisco and will acknowledge the timeless traditions of iconic music and nightlife venues around the world. The club will feature an array of local talent, with occasional touring talent.
Keys Jazz Bistro is set to open Thursday, Nov. 10, restoring the sound to what once was the wild-and-woolly Barbary Coast. 🎶🤩
