SF’s Iconic Pizzeria Tommaso’s Needs New Owners

An iconic pizza spot in North Beach since 1935, the owners are retiring and are looking for someone to continue the legacy

Thanks to the San Francisco Standard for letting us know that our beloved North Beach gem, Tommaso’s Ristorante Italiano, is searching for a new family to carry on its delicious legacy.

Agostino, Carmen, and Anna Crotti have been dishing up heavenly Neapolitan pizzas for 50 years, but now they’re ready to hang up their aprons and retire. They’re looking for the perfect fit to preserve the timeless charm of their 88-year-old eatery, complete with its Amalfi Coast murals and the city’s first wood-fired brick pizza oven.

It’s no secret that Tommaso’s, which opened in 1935, has hosted a who’s who of local celebs over the years (we’re talking Coppola, Lucas, and Sinatra!). But the real stars of the show are the Crottis who are hopeful the next owners will keep the magic alive, while they enjoy some well-deserved R&R in Lake Como and the Bay Area.

So keep your eyes peeled if you know a family who wants to take over this iconic neighborhood spot who can hopefully deliver us the next chapter in Tommaso’s flavorful tale.

Tommaso’s, at 1042 Kearny St. (at Broadway) in North Beach is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 5-10pm and it’s walk-in only (no reservations) – See the menu
