CHINESE IN THE RICHMOND will extend its exhibit debut with an evening reception at One Richmond San Francisco, 802 Clement Street, San Francisco, on Thursday, May 25, 2023.
A collaboration between the Chinese Historical Society of America (CHSA) and Western Neighborhoods Project (WNP), CHINESE IN THE RICHMOND sheds light on the lives of Chinese Americans in San Francisco’s Richmond District from the community’s point of view.
This companion piece to CHSA’s Chinese in the Sunset exhibit [premiered 2017] is a complementary historical exploration of the Chinese American experience in San Francisco. Consisting of dozens of generational interviews of Chinese Americans whose families migrated out of Chinatown in pursuit of the American dream. CHINESE IN THE RICHMOND completes a narrative pathway through the barriers and restrictions that were overcome by Chinese Americans as they first brought families to both neighborhoods.
Guest speakers including SF Supervisor Connie Chan will be on hand to commemorate this important debut that has been years in the making and endured countless interviews and meetings amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
