Celebrate the re-launch of the Mill Valley Library’s Seed Library with this special event featuring a conversation with Jennifer Jewell, host of the gardening podcast Cultivating Place and author of the new book What We Sow: On the Personal, Ecological, and Cultural Significance of Seeds. Learn about cultivating seeds and go home with something new to plant courtesy of the Seed Library!
In What We Sow, Jewell brings readers on a journey exploring the impact of the simple seed, from where “organic” seeds are grown and sourced, to giant multinational agribusiness that have refined and patented the genomes of seeds we rely on for staples like corn and soy, and the efforts of activists working to regain legal access to heirloom seeds that were stolen from Indigenous peoples and people of color. Throughout, readers are invited to share Jewell’s personal observations as she marvels at the glory of nature in her Northern California hometown.
Jennifer Jewell was honored as a 2023 “Great American Gardener” by the American Horticultural Society, and she has served on the board of the Pacific Horticulture Society and is a member of the California Native Plant Society, American Horticultural Society, and Garden Communicators International. Her podcast Cultivating Place won the 2017 Gold Award for Best Overall Broadcast Media, and Best On-Air Talent from the Garden Writers of America (now GardenComm), and the 2018 Best On-Air Talent.
Sausalito Books by the Bay will be the bookseller for this event.
