The SF Mandolin Orchestra is returning to San Francisco for a free concert at Mission Dolores.
Our season’s concert theme: “Napoli and the Revolution.”
The 18th century was a time of revolutionary thought and music. Across Europe and America enlightenment ideas of freedom, order, rationality, and happiness were influence politics. The music of the time reflected this, with the end of the Baroque and emergence of the Classical Period. And in Naples, Italy, the introduction of an egalitarian new instrument—the mandolin—that allowed any amateur to make music.
Join us to hear the music that Jefferson, Franklin, Paine, and other revolutionaries would have heard:
• Johann Sebastian Bach: Selections from Art of the Fugue
• Giuseppe Giuliano: Concerto for Mandolin in B flat (Achille Bocus, soloist)
• Wolfgang Mozart: Selections from London Notebook
• Giovanni Battista Sammartini: Sinfonia in G Major for String Orchestra
• Antonio Vivaldi: Qual in Pioggia Dorata (featuring mezzo-soprano Twila Ehmcke)
