Ferry Nice! “Free Ferry Fridays” Between Richmond and SF Start November 1st

San Francisco Bay Ferry just announced that ferry rides between Richmond and Downtown San Francisco will be free every Friday from November 1 through the end of 2024.

The ferry ride is approximately 35 minutes and takes off from Gate E2 at the Downtown SF Terminal at the Ferry Building just behind the Ferry Plaza. Richmond to San Francisco is a “Zone 1” trip and is normally $4.70 each way for Clipper, paper or mobile tickets.

The ferry is first come first served for most trips and reservations are not available.

Ferry Times and Frequencies

  • From Richmond to San Francisco ferries start at 6:30am with the last one departing at 8:25pm. There are 14 ferries a day.
  • From San Francisco to Richmond ferries start at 7:15am with the last one departing at 8:05pm. There are 12 ferries a day.
  • Please note November 4th there’s a schedule change – with a few ferry times being adjusted between 5 and 20 minutes. Typically there are more ferries in the morning and evening commute hours, with fewer between 10:45a and 4p
