Grateful Dead’s 60th Anniversary: 3-Day Concert Coming to SF’s Golden Gate Park
Thanks to the San Francisco Chronicle for sharing the news that Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary concerts approved for Golden Gate Park.
Get ready, Deadheads — the music is coming home. San Francisco just gave the green light for a massive 60th anniversary celebration for the Grateful Dead, and it’s happening right where it all began: Golden Gate Park.
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission unanimously approved a three-day concert series featuring Dead & Company, including surviving Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, along with John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti, and Jay Lane. The shows are scheduled for August 1–3, 2025, at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park.
Organized by Another Planet Entertainment and Live Nation in partnership with SF Rec & Park, the outdoor event is expected to draw up to 60,000 fans per day. It’s one of the biggest music events in the city this summer — and a major milestone for a band that helped shape San Francisco’s cultural identity.
The concerts will also mark Dead & Company’s first Bay Area performance since the passing of longtime bassist Phil Lesh in October 2024, making this an especially meaningful tribute.
This isn’t just about the music — it’s also a boost for the local economy. Past Dead & Company shows in SF have generated tens of millions in economic activity, with hotels, restaurants, and small businesses likely to benefit from the influx of visitors once again.
Each night will begin with up to 75-minute special guest sets from Billy Strings on Friday, August 1, Sturgill “Johnny Blue Skies” Simpson on Saturday, August 2, and Trey Anastasio Band on Sunday, August 3.
