“Shakedown Street” GG Park Marketplace w/ 100 Vendors for Dead & Co. Shows (Aug. 1-3)

EVENT UPDATE: There are no upcoming events known for this event series - please check the organizer website for any updates.

“Shakedown Street” is back for Dead & Company’s SF shows in Golden Gate Park

Normally a renegade type event, this year’s “official” market will unfold Aug. 1-3 from 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. along a 200-foot stretch of JFK Promenade, between Transverse Drive and Blue Heron Lake Drive.

Want a more authentic Shakedown Street? If you’re looking for a more authentic underground Shakedown Street experience, check out r/FreeShakedown on Reddit or Instagram for artists and vendors who want to bypass the “official” vendor area and set up their own “people’s” Shakedown Street.

What is Shakedown Street?

“Shakedown Street” is the name for the pop-up marketplace that started in the parking lots of Grateful Dead shows in the early 1980s. Named after a Grateful Dead song, it became a freewheeling hub where fans could sell handmade goods, food, art, clothing, and more – part vending fair, part social gathering for the Deadhead community.

2025 San Francisco Edition
This year, a more formal version of Shakedown Street will take place August 1-3 from 10:30am-6pm along a 200-foot stretch of JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park, about a mile from the Dead & Company concerts at Polo Fields.

  • Free and open to the public
  • ~100 vendors selling art, crafts, and merch (no food or drink sales allowed)
  • No amplified music, alcohol, or unofficial food vendors this year
  • A more regulated but still deeply rooted continuation of the Shakedown tradition
