SINCE 2007, organizers Travis Van Brasch and Brad Newsham and many friends have been hosting “human banner” events in which hundreds (sometimes thousands) of attendees assemble themselves inside the outlines of enormous images that are then filmed from the air.
The Internet always feasts on the imagery from these events, and the mainstream press often gorges itself, too. Already in 2025, three events have been featured on ABC, CBS, “NBC Late Night with Seth Myers,” Rachel Maddow, many more. The full list goes on and on, including scores of newspapers on three continents: The San Francisco Chronicle, Guardian, Washington Post, NY Times, LA Times, Irish Times. You know you’ve struck a universal note when your work runs in the Hindustan Times! Or spends a week as the lead photo on RollingStone.com (see photo below).
The details of the upcoming October 18 banner — as always, this is a free event — are still being worked out, and will soon be posted here on this site, as well as at Human-Banners-at-Ocean-Beach.org.
