SF’s Free “Castro Merchant Walk” Discover Local Gems (Summer 2026)

Join us for our Castro Merchant Walk!

One of San Francisco’s most storied neighborhoods, the Castro is a vibrant, walkable district that grew out of the heart of the Queer Rights movement into a community defined by resilience, belonging, and an enduring commitment to its identity. The main corridor pulses with color and character: legacy institutions and newer arrivals sharing the same sidewalks, independent boutiques, longtime bars, neighborhood restaurants, and locally owned shops that have held their ground through decades of change, tended by owners who show up every day not just to run a business, but to facilitate community.

Why Participate?

  • Support Local Businesses: Contribute to the neighborhood’s vitality by supporting local entrepreneurs.
  • Network: Connect with fellow community members, business owners, and local artisans.
  • Discover Hidden Gems: Uncover unique products and services you won’t find anywhere else.

Space is limited, so register today!

Where We’ll Visit:

3:00pm Queer Arts Featured | 575 Castro St (Meet-Up)

Queer Arts Featured is an artist-led gallery, boutique, and gathering space occupying the historic storefront that once housed Harvey Milk’s Castro Camera. The shop champions emerging and underrepresented queer artists and makers from across the Bay Area, keeping the spirit of that landmark address alive through art, community, and creative connection.

3:25 pm Local Take | 4122 18th St

Local Take is a Castro gift shop stocked entirely with work from Bay Area artists and designers, from handmade jewelry and ceramics to SF-themed apparel and home goods. With a roster of local makers that grows nearly every week, it has spent over a decade becoming a genuine neighborhood anchor, supporting an ecosystem of small business owners

3:45 pm Cliff’s Variety | 479 Castro St

Cliff’s Variety has been a Castro institution since 1936, carrying an eclectic mix of hardware, housewares, craft supplies, and novelty items that reflects the neighborhood’s creative spirit. It is one of San Francisco’s most beloved independent retailers, known as much for its quirky charm as for the hard-to-find goods you did not know you needed until you walked through the door.

4:10pm Stag and Manor | 2327 Market St

A Castro neighborhood fixture on Market Street, Stag and Manor is a modern home furnishings and decor shop with a global perspective and a community spirit, stocking globally sourced minimalist crafts alongside locally made goods. The carefully curated mix of furniture, candles, textiles, and gifts brings warmth and soul to modern design.

4:35pm Photoworks SF | 2279 Market St
A full-service film lab and print shop, Photoworks has been the go-to spot for photographers seeking quality developing, scanning, and fine-art printing from a passionate staff. Whether you’re dropping off a roll of 35mm film or picking up a gallery-wrapped canvas, the shop offers a range of products and services for creatives of every level.

5:00pm Canela Bar Bistro | 2272 Market St (Reception)

Canela Bar and Bistro is a Spanish-inspired neighborhood restaurant in the heart of the Castro, serving rustic small plates and pintxos, along with an extensive Spanish wine selection, in a warm, intimate space. It’s the kind of place where the food is meant to be shared and the evening has a way of stretching longer than planned.
