Join the East Bay Bike Coalition at 6 pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at West Oakland BART for a ride out on to the world’s longest bike pier, the new Alexander Zuckermann Bicycle-Pedestrian Path of the Oakland Span of the new Bay Bridge.
Free, but an RSVP is requested.
Afterwards join EBBC for pizza and drinks (for purchase) afterwards at the Hot Italian Restaurant in Emeryville. The Bike Path closes at 8 pm, so you’ll need to get on out there.
The Oakland Span of the Bay Bridge is ready to open on Monday of Labor Day Weekend and the new Alexander Zuckermann (the late founder of the EBBC) Bike Path will open at noon. Oakland Mayor Jean Quan will be joined by Alex Zuckermann’s two sons Ron and David and their families for the official ceremony. The bike path ribbon cutting ceremony will start at noon approximately with the pathway opening immediately after the chain cutting. >> Learn more about the Bay Bridge Bike Path
Please note, the bike path does not reach Treasure Island yet.
The bike pier pathway will close at night, due to construction zone issues, and reopen every morning. This will continue only during the estimated two year period to finish construction of the bike path to the island. Also, the bike path will stop out on the suspension span, past its tower. The path to the island is not finished yet because the old bridge is in the way.
This event is confirmed, but subject to changes or postponement due to possible bridge building delays. (We all know they like to delay things with this bridge.)
