Event Details

Come learn to spit mad rhythms in this free workshop open to all – from beginner to advanced.

You’ll be playing rhythm games, learning a language of rhythmic units to draw from, doing call-and-response, and overlaying rhythms on top of each other.

Rhythm Camp says: This session’s style is inspired by the Indian tabla percussion tradition, an oral tradition of rhythmic cells. Like an infant learning to speak, you just say it and do it. You start by copying simple words and quickly learn to build phrases with them. Soon enough you’ll be able to make jokes.

There will be opportunities aplenty to perform, improvise, and even conduct a group. At some point we’ll be freestylin’ it.

They’ll be bringing an assortment of things to hit for sound also, and invite folks to bring percussibles or other instruments of their own.
