Join early California descendants, known as Los Californianos, for a roll call honoring their ancestors and the arrival of the Anza Expedition settlers to San Francisco 238 years ago.
San Francisco’s 238th Birthday Celebration

FREEIn 1775-1776, 240 colonists – soldiers, men, women and children – traveled 1,800 miles from present-day Mexico and found the Presidio of San Francisco, bringing with them a new culture and a new era in California History. Descendants of the original founding families of the Juan Bautista de Anza Expedition return to the Presidio every June to recognize the amazing journey.
In 2014, the celebration is followed by a fun afternoon for kids with dance workshops, music and more at the Golden Gate Club, 135 Fisher Loop, Main Post from noon to 3 pm.
Explore the stories of early California and see history come to life. Enjoy music,dance, Ohlone storytelling, hands-on kids’ activities, living history, and Juanito the donkey. In 2014, Ballet Folklórico Mexicano will offer dance workshops. Food is available for purchase.
