The latest historical exhibit at the Maritime Museum celebrates the 225th Anniversary of the U.S. Customs Service and highlights the rich history of the service from its inception in 1789 to the present featuring first-person accounts, photographs, artifacts, and video, and brings to life the important roles Customs has played in the growth and development of the nation.
View displays on intercepting smuggling devices, the dangers of counterfeit products, and preventing human trafficking. The mixed history includes acts of heroism during the chaos of the Gold Rush, shameful 19th century immigration laws, battling the raging fire following the Great Earthquake of 1906, and protecting California’s coasts and borders to the present day.

Hours and admission: Open daily, 10 am to 4 pm. Free admission. Wheelchair accessible.
San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park is located at the west end of Fisherman’s Wharf, in San Francisco. The park includes a magnificent fleet of historic ships, Visitor Center, Maritime Museum, Aquatic Park Historic District, and Maritime Research Center.
