It’s gonna be one exciting SF Beer Week this year. I’m downright verklempt about the number of awesome events that have been put together. SF Beer Week is really about showcasing the amazing flavors, fun, and culture of beer, and those are the types of high-quality events that your favorite breweries, restaurants, and bars are putting together. Explore the species, habitat, and culture of beer.
The kickoff event is The SF Brewers Guild Opening Gala at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, which is $55 (Update: It’s now sold-out.), but most of the other events are free admission, including the marquee event: the 18th Annual Barleywine Festival at Toranado on Haight Street (2/19-20). In most cases, you just have to pay for your beer. In some cases, there are free samples.
Numerous restaurants will be offering food and beer pairings at varying prices, as well as free appetizers or special beer dinners. There will be scavenger hunts, pub crawls, beer trivia nights, pairings of shots and beers, and even Wii Bowling. Many brewers will be introducing limited edition beers, ales, and barleywines, and some major micro-brewers (we’re looking at you, Anchor) will be showcasing new products.
The venues range from some of the diveyist if dive bars to The Public House at ATT Park. Special lodging packages are available if you’re coming from out of town. If you register on their website, you can keep your itinerary on there & view it from your mobile device, so you don’t forget which event you’re due at next, what with all the beer drinking you’ll be doing. February is Strong Beer Month, after all.
The full Schedule of events is here. You can also follow their feed on Twitter.
Drink well, and be safe out there. Take a cab or transit.
