$5 Concerts at Slims: folkYEAH! with Jason Simon | SF

(((folkYEAH!))) presents another evening of soft rockers culled for their folking skills.

There’s plenty to see here. Look out for Jason Simon, the lead singer of Dead Meadow, a group signed to Matador Records that infuses pshychedelic rock with the force of 70’s hard rock and sings about Tolkien fantasies.

Cleverly-named Jeffertitti’s Nile is tough to pin down. The threesome from Topanga Canyon (LA’s version of Marin Co.) describes itself as a “hypnotic rover of sound that necompasses of the sense.” Sounds trippy.

“Farmer” Dave Scher is also a riot, keeping his shows fun with storytelling; plus he keeps good company: from touring with Jenny Lewis to writing songs about pal Paz Lenchantin of A Perfect Circle.

Big Eagle and Ariella Daly round up a solid evening.
