Lighted Art Tour of San Francisco

As part of Illuminate SF, experience an evening of participatory pageantry highlighting three illuminated installations and artists talks as part of the 2nd Annual IlluminArts Walk from North Beach to the Embarcadero on Thursday, December 4, 2014.

Language of the Birds
After gathering in Jack Kerouac alley, the group will visit Language of the Birds, where artists Brian Goggin and Dorka Keehn will share their experiences as the installation creators.

The Bay Lights
Moving through alleyways and stairways the group will scale Telegraph Hill to admire The Bay Lights, the world’s largest light art installation, and learn first hand all the behind the scene stories its creation from Illuminate the Arts leadership.

Metamorphosis
After descending the scenic Filbert Steps, the group will gather in the public plaza at the Exploratorium to experience Metamorphosis, a glowing, mist-generating comet sculpture created in commemoration of the Rosetta Mission to rendez-vous a spacecraft with a comet.

Soma
Classic Cable Car Sightseeing will be waiting to deliver the group, the San Francisco way, to Pier 14 to take in the brilliant interactive light installation Soma, first seen at Burning Man 2009 and hear the story of its creation by artist Margaret Long of the Flaming Lotus Girls. Please note we’re not sure if there’s a cost for the cable car or not, so bring cash just in case.

Intrepid participants have the option to return to the Exploratorium, via Classic Cable Car to attend After Dark:Glow (tickets not included) which remains open until 10 pm.
