The 25,000 lights of The Bay Lights was originally supposed to be just a two year art installation. Boy, time flies… as that two years was due to be up on March 5, 2015.
Thanks to reaching their fundraising goal of $4 million, this twinkling site-specific light art installation – billed was the world’s largest light sculpture covering 1.8 miles – will now become a permanent addition to the Bay Bridge.
But get ready for a little bit of darkness first. After some cable repair in 2015, The Bay Lights are set to be replaced with a much sturdier set of lights that will begin shining in time for Super Bowl 50 in February 2016.
