The Harrington Gallery at the Firehouse Arts Center announces its next major exhibition. “Repurposed: Creative Re-Use of Otherwise Discarded Items” opens June 24 and runs through July 23. The installation brings together fascinating works by four unique Northern California artists who use diverse processes, motivations, and cast-off materials to create sophisticated fine art pieces. The art works include origami, free standing sculpture, assemblage wall pieces, collage incorporating old sheet music and books, and a large installation work not to be missed.
Reception: Free opening reception with the artists will be held on Wednesday, June 23, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Harrington Gallery. Light refreshments will be served. Guests are welcome to explore the exhibit, and ask questions and chat with the artists.
Young @ Art Event: Thursday, June 25, 4:30-5:45 p.m. “Recycled Fun” Young @ Art Youth Gallery Program. Ages 5-11. Register at www.pleasantonfun.com, code 60159.
Harrington Gallery Director Julie Finegan, who also curated Repurposed, notes that “the artists featured in this exhibition have a unique and subtle ability to engage the viewer in thinking about the objects we as a society amass, and what we often so casually throw away.”
The artists: Lisa Hochstein of Santa Cruz; Jon Kerpel of Alameda; Beverly Rayner, also of Santa Cruz; and Nga Trinh of El Cerrito.
