Pier 27 Cruise Ship Terminal (near Embarcadero and Lombard), SF – Directions

This free waterside concert pairs one of Dessner’s most accomplished pieces, inspired by Jack Kerouac’s Big Sur, with another contemporary work drawn from the American landscape. Pulitzer Prize winner David Lang’s Mountain is a tribute to the iconic American composer Aaron Copland, inspired by a mountain view Lang enjoyed in Vermont one summer.
To accompany these striking contemporary works, the symphony will also perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Stravinsky’s incandescent The Firebird Suite (1919 Revision).
