The grand opening of the new Peet’s Theatre in Berkeley is taking place from noon to 3 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2016 and everyone is invited.
The Thrust Stage, which opened in 1980 as Berkeley Rep’s first permanent home, is now the Peet’s Theatre in recognition of a new major partnership with Peet’s Coffee. To celebrate, they’re inviting the community to be the first to check it out.
Bring the family and join the festivities. You’ll be able to:
- Act on the Peet’s Theatre stage
- Experience Meyer Sound’s astonishing Constellation Acoustic System
- Take a backstage tour
- Participate in theatre workshops led by Berkeley Rep School of Theatre’s Teaching Artists: Clowning, Stage Combat, Improv, and more
- Meet leaders of the artistic team: Tony Taccone and Madeleine Oldham
- Have fun in the costume photo booth
- Taste Peet’s Coffee
- Get grub from food trucks
The reopening follows nine months of extensive renovation that left no space untouched and will enhance the experience for all theatregoers. The centerpiece of the renovation is the installation of the Constellation Acoustic System from Meyer Sound in Berkeley. The opening of the Peet’s Theatre marks the successful close of phase one of Berkeley Rep’s Create Campaign, a $50 million comprehensive campaign launched in 2013 to invest in theatre for the next generation.
