The temporary pop-up explores the institutionalization of ink, and asks viewers to re-imagine ink possibilities. Artist Jonathan Wallraven creates an immersive experience for viewers to explore this theme.
Drawn directly on the CCC Visual Art Center’s walls, Wallraven’s work engages with temporality and the viewer’s experience. Contesting the notions of ink as an Asian, static medium typically conjuring images of traditional brush painting, in contrast Wallraven’s playful and ephemeral work defies easy categorization. The artist integrates different methodologies, using technology to sketch the original work, projection, and painting with brush and ink.
