Event Details

Sand is a limited resource, yet has become one of the most sought after natural resources around the world. Sand Wars, an award-winning investigative documentary film by Denis Delestrac, has been screened to audiences around the world.

It demonstrates the growing global demand for sand, specifically the grade of sand being extracted from the ocean floor, as well as the San Francisco Bay and Monterey Bay, for rising construction demands.

The film illustrates how 3,500 companies import $70 billion of construction-grade sand to the Middle East in order to build cities such as Dubai; how Singapore is expanding its shoreline by illegally dredging sand from neighbor island states; and how 25 Indonesian islands have simply disappeared due to sand extraction-related erosion.
