Philip Krohn creates provisional installations that are site specific and made of elegantly re-purposed refuse. After the Flood is a two night event on May 20 & 21st that combines an interactive sculptural environment with film and light work, improvisational performance, and audience action. Part theater, part sculptural work-in-progress, After the Flood is an immersive sensual experience that explores the tension between our profligate use of natural resources and the extraordinary beauty of re-contextualized waste.
After the Flood combines two thematic installations of scattered, piled and architecturally combined refuse:
1. Sticks and Stones is a sprawling vernal landscape that plays with the way incongruous materials and perspectives are up-ended and mixed in a metaphoric flood.
2. The Oracle is a massive glacial form made of 500 five gallon cooking oil jugs set in a wintry environment and animated by cinematic projection, internal light effects and sound design.
Included in the installation are hundreds of thousands of refuse resources that the attendees will be asked to manipulate during their time in the studio.
