National Trails Day 2016

Celebrate National Trails Day, the nation’s largest celebration of trails and the outdoors, in the Golden Gate National Parks on June 4, 2016.

The Trails Forever Team and partner organizations, One Tam, REI, and American Hiking Society, will host a series of trail and habitat service projects throughout the parks (Marin, San Mateo, and San Francisco). No experience is necessary.

National Trails Day 2016: Bay Area Projects

Marin – One Tam

680 Trail – Marin County Parks Register >>
Join Marin County Parks in celebrating National Trails Day on the 680 Trail! Support the team in building drainage features, repairing eroded tread, and brushing the trail corridor.
Time: 9 am-1 pm
Details: Volunteers ages 12 and up are welcome. Project work will be moderately strenuous.

Bullfrog Trail – Marin Municipal Water District Register >>
Join Marin Municipal Water District and help maintain a redwood boardwalk, improve trail drainage, and prune vegetation on the Bullfrog Trail in the spectacular Mt Tamalpais Watershed!
Time: 9 am-2 pm
Details: Volunteers ages 12 and up are welcome. Project work will be moderately strenuous.

Redwood Creek Trail – California State Parks Register >>
Join California State Park rangers and volunteers as we work on trail maintenance and clearing the Redwood Creek Trail at Mount Tamalpais State Park.
Time: 9 am-12:30 pm
Details: Volunteers ages 12 and up are welcome. Project work will be moderately strenuous.

San Francisco

Presidio of San Francisco Register >>
Join us for a day of stewardship along Presidio trails, forests, and pathways. Activities will include maintaining trails, tending trees in adjacent reforestation zones, and restoring nearby native habitat.
Time: 9 am-1 pm
Details: Family-friendly project, volunteers of all ages are welcome.

Fort Miley Register >>
Over the last three National Trails Days, we created an accessible loop around Fort Miley. Now with the project complete, we’ll return to work along those very trails to remove invasive plants and create space for native California dune species to grow!
Time: 9:30 am-12:30 pm
Details: Family-friendly project, volunteers of all ages are welcome.

San Mateo

Connemara Trail at Milagra Ridge Register >>
Join the National Park Service Trail Crew at Milagra Ridge for National Trails Day! The focus will be on the Connemara Trail and include activities such as buildling drainage features, repairing eroded tread, and brushing the trail corridor.
Time: 10 am-1 pm
Details: Volunteers ages 14 and up are welcome. Project work will be moderately strenuous.

San Carlos Trail at Rancho Corral de Tierra Register >>
Get dirty in one of the newest additions of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Rancho Corral de Tierra! Join us in restoring native habitat and repairing tread on the San Carlos Trail for National Trails Day.
Time: 10 am-1 pm
Details: Volunteers ages 12 and up are welcome. Project is moderately strenuous.
