Tune up those bikes and toss those riding duds in the wash; you won’t need them for the World Naked Bike Ride in San Francisco.

You may think this is an “only in SF” event, but it’s actually in ten cities. Hundreds of people will strip down and ride bikes throughout the city as part of the 13th Annual Northern Hemisphere World Naked Bike Ride and anti-big oil protest.

World Nake Bike Ride 2016: Northern Hemisphere
Saturday June 11, 2016 | Meet at 11 am. Ride at noon.
Meet outside the Ferry Building btwn Starbucks and Farmer’s Market
FREE

In 2016, meet near the Ferry Building on Embarcadero in an open public area to the north and between the Farmer’s Market and the Starbuck’s. They will begin meeting there at 11 am. Please remain dressed until they have sufficient numbers of riders and are near the time they will ride. You will have time to do body/face paint and reacquaint yourselves with old friends. Bring body paints, watercolors and markers to apply slogans and designs to each other and adorn your bikes with signs.

The 2016 route will take you through their usual favorite areas along Fisherman’s Wharf, The Marina, North Beach, The Haight, and downtown. The route will be published just before the ride. New in 2016, they are planning to join an art event and party in Fort Mason for after ride festivities.

How Naked is “Naked”? While it is a “naked” bike ride, all are welcome; it’s ride as bare as you dare. Wear body paint, rubber latex, bikinis, topless, lingerie, bubble pack, or whatever costume you are comfortable riding in. They have already had several naked rides while under cloud of the oppressive anti-nudity ordinance, with zero citations or complaints. If you are still uncertain, than its best to have a sarong, a beach wrap, or shorts ready for quick cover-up.

All types of bikes are welcome too. How about some more tandems or unicycles? Hey, get your friends with music bikes to ride too. Skaters and skateboarders have also joined past rides.

As always, the ride is in continued protest of an unsustainable energy policy in all nations around the globe. They support the innovation of alternate and improved energy technologies, the social commitment to a more sustainable energy consumption and generally the pure fun and joy of riding naked to draw attention to these issues.
