Event Details

In honor of Israel’s 3rd annual day of commemoration to honor Jewish refugees from the Middle East and North Africa, JIMENA, The Israeli Consulate of the Pacific Northwest in San Francisco and the SF Public Library invite you to an evening to commemorate Mizrahi Jewish refugees and to celebrate Iraqi Jewish culture.

Join them for a screening of The Dove Flyer: Farewell Baghdad, based on the critically acclaimed autobiographical blockbuster novel by Eli Amir. The film recalls a lost time when over 130,000 Jews lived and prospered in Iraq. We follow the teenage Kabi as he navigates the final years of the community’s existence in Iraq, before its final expulsion and resettlement to 1950s Israel. Following the screening, hear testimony from Aaron Matityahu moderated by Joe Shamash, both Iraqi Jews born in Baghdad.
