Thanks to our friends at 7×7 for tipping us off about the Embarcadero Rowing Club’s free recreational rows in the Bay every Tuesday evening at 6:45 p.m. and Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Anyone interested in joining the club or in the sport of whaleboat rowing and racing can come out and meet club members and take a turn behind the oars at the rec rows (the first few rows are free and after that you’ll be asked to pay annual dues).
The club uses 26-foot long whaleboats made for 10 people, which means you can meet a bunch of new friends through a little bit of teamwork.
Make sure to arrive early at the club’s launching point next to The Ramp restaurant and spend the night socializing and splashing around.
Docks next to The Ramp Restaurant (Illinois St. & Mariposa St., SF) | Every Sunday & Tuesday | Sunday 9:30a & Tuesday 6:45p | FREE
Top Tips:
- Arrive early! The row boat sessions are generally limited to 6 non-members per session, otherwise there’d be so many people you’d be rowing in circles
- Come prepared: No pants with pockets or rivets (they hurt the boat), no underwear or padded shorts (both lead to nasty blisters), and closed-toes shoes
