2017 National Trails Day: Volunteer Outdoors
Celebrate National Trails Day, the nation’s largest celebration of trails and the outdoors, in the Golden Gate National Parks on June 3, 2017.
The National Park Service is realigning the trail at this historic Marin Headlands site to elevate safety and accessibility for visitors, improve drainage to prevent erosion, and create a larger protective barrier for endangered Mission Blue butterfly habitat. With direction from trail crew staff and interns, volunteers will build post and cable fence along this new section of trail.
Park teams and partners, One Tam, REI, and American Hiking Society, will host a series of trail and habitat restoration projects throughout the parks (Marin, San Mateo, and San Francisco).
Lunch will be provided as well as free t-shirts and swag, courtesy of REI. Volunteers 14+ are welcome. Projects are moderately strenuous. Please note, the trail to the project site is steep.

Golden Gate’s signature National Trails Day site. Join the National Park Service trail crew at Hawk Hill and help build fencing along the new trail.
Volunteers 14+ are welcome; projects are moderately strenuous; trail to project site is steep.

Lands End
Lend a helping at Lands End in celebration of National Trails Day. The focus for this will be restoring the dunes that line park trails and clearing vegetation from staircases.
Family friendly; projects are lightly strenuous.
