Why pay a fortune to see the art in Sausalito when you can visit the Kings Mountain Art Fair for free?

Known for its stunning location among the redwoods and for its unique and varied artists, the Kings Mountain Art Fair celebrates more than 50 years of art and ambiance.

It’s one of the ‘Top Five Fine Art Fairs of California‘ by the Art Fair Source Book, and it has a decidedly cool Nor Cal vibe.

This is not your average kitschy craft fair. It’s a fine art fair where you can talk to the artists, hang out in a gorgeous redwood forest and enjoy great food and fresh air – all meals are enthusiastically prepared and served by an all-volunteer staff that includes members of the volunteer fire rescue team.

Parking
Park along Skyline Blvd., and take a free trolley from marked stops to the main entrance (2 stops, located about 1 mile north and south of the fair)

Food & Drinks
Breakfast is available from 8 am to 10:30 am at the Cookshack. Enjoy eggs, sausage, pancakes, juice, milk, and Peet’s coffee under the redwood canopy. Lunch runs from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Cookshack. Tasty hamburgers, cheeseburgers, pulled pork, turkey sandwiches, house-made cole slaw and chili, corn-on-the-cob, peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, veggie burgers, nachos and more are served. A variety of drinks, including juices, iced teas, sodas, milk, water, beers and wines, can be purchased from the Cookshack and the Upper and Lower Beverage Booths.

Kids have their own dedicated space at the Art Fair: Kiddie Hollow, located down the hill from the Cookie Booth. For a nominal fee to cover the costs of supplies ($4 for 12 tickets, $7 for 26), children of all ages can make their own art at the supervised booths, including spin, string, straw, and glitter art, among other activities. There is also a Parent’s Retreat overlooking Kiddie Hollow where adults can relax while the children play. Kiddie Hollow is open from 10 am to 4 pm

Meet the Firefighter
To learn about the adventures of a volunteer firefighter, the history of the Kings Mountain Volunteer Fire Brigade, or get a free blood pressure check, be sure to visit the Firefighters’ booth (next to the Upper Beverage Booth).

You may also pick up free fire protection-related items, including a Smokey the Bear coloring book for the kids. The trained, friendly volunteer firefighters are prepared to administer First Aid if needed.

Just a hope, skip, and a jump from San Francisco, the fair takes place around the Kings Mountain Fire Station and Community Center, along California Scenic Corridor Highway 35, six miles south of Highway 92. Most people know the area as a recreational mecca for hikers and bikers; now, come see the art.
