The Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival is one of California’s most prominent celebrations of Asian traditions with over 150,000 people attending this dazzling display showcasing the color and grace of the Japanese culture and the diversity of the Japanese American Community.
- Festival: Saturday and Sunday, April 10 & 11, 17 & 18, 2010 – 11am to 5pm
- Grand Parade: Sunday, April 18, 2010 – 1pm
Full Schedule of Events
The five-acre Japan Center, at Post and Buchanan Streets, and the adjacent blocks of Japantown will be filled with exquisitely costumed performers and will echo with thunderous rhythms of huge taiko drums, ethereal strains of koto music, crackling of boards being splintered by martial artists, and the gentle sounds of tea ceremonies.
Classical and folk dancers will perform both weekends. Experts in karate, kendo (a style of fencing with bamboo swords), aikido, and judo will demonstrate their skills, and collectors of samurai swords and armor will display their treasures.
