Event Details

The Mission Arts & Performance Project (MAPP) is a bi-monthly, multidisciplinary, intercultural community arts event that takes place in the south-east neighborhood of the Mission District of San Francisco. At its heart, MAPP shows how ordinary spaces, made extra-ordinary through creative techniques, can serve as improvised micro-centers of artistic and cultural exchange.

April 2010 MAPP Event: “Get Into It” : an interactive sculptural installation by Elizabeth Amento, with video by Ian Colon.

Elizabeth Amento’s sculptural installation strives to bring people together through imposed proximity by providing a colorful and tactile experience that allows the viewer to enter a space and interact with biomorphic sculptures. The environment allows for an intimate experience with a friend or stranger, and inevitably the viewers are turned participants and have a new awareness of their own body. Touching, an experience that in daily life can be unsure, is here pleasurable and secure.

Get Into It will show in full form during the full MAPP day, Saturday April 3rd, from 9am to 2am. After MAPP, an adapted installation will show in the space through Saturday April 10th.
