Secession Art & Design is hosting a fundraiser for Surfrider Foundation on Tuesday, July 24, 6-8pm in support of banning single-use plastic straws in San Francisco and beyond.

Secession will be donating 10% of our sales that day towards this cause. Jeremy Novy created 8 exclusive watercolor Koi prints that will be sold that evening for $100 each. He will also be giving a talk about his art, and we’ll be showing STRAWS, an award-winning documentary by Linda Booker.

In San Francisco alone, 1 million plastic straws are used every day, according to a tweet from our new Mayor London Breed. Many of these straws end up in the ocean. Several of the businesses near Secession in Mission Bernal have made the switch to paper straws and compostable cups, plates, and to-go boxes. Hopefully, by 2019 this will become law and you will get used to a cute paper straw in your cocktail.

What will you do in your daily life to protect our oceans and the environment? While you’re enjoying your summer staycations and getaways, remember to ask for a paper straw or none at all.
