Carnivàle Pataphysique | SF
You are invited to a four day carnivale in San Francisco, beginning on the death day of pataphysics creator Alfred Jarry and featuring the launch of a new book on pataphysics from November 1-4, 2012.
Pataphysics is a philosophy created by French writer Alfred Jarry who defined ‘pataphysics as “the science of imaginary solutions, which symbolically attributes the properties of objects, described by their virtuality, to their lineaments.”
Hear Amphibian Operas and Debraining Songs at the San Francisco Art Institute Lecture Hall from 2-4pm on November 4.
A concert featuring Betty Roi, who will sing pataphysical songs by Alfred Jarry, Erik Satie, Jacques Prévert, Boris Vian, Raymond Queneau, and Frédéric Inigo, including:

- Le deserteur
- Fais moi mal Johnny
- Si tu t’imagines
- J’suis snob
- Simple comme bonjour
- Le petit commerce
- Je bois
- Chanson du decervelage
- Tendrement
- Le when-when anglais
This will be followed by an illustrated talk on Music and ‘Pataphyiscs by Andrew Hugill, including musical examples from Alphonse Allais, Erik Satie, Marcel Duchamp, Luc Etienne, Harpo Marx, Jean Dubuffet, Soft Machine, The Portsmouth Sinfonia, Gullibloon, Ramuntcho Matta, Marc Battier, and others.
