Popular SF Brunch Spot Dottie’s True Blue Cafe Closes

Goodbye to hyped up breakfast and long waits

Sadly, a San Francisco brunch institution, Dottie’s True Blue Cafe, has closed its doors for good after nearly 30 years.

The SoMa cafe, located at 28 6th St., was featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Patrons would often wait for hours in line outside the busy restaurant to taste signature dishes like its chili-cheddar cornbread served with jalapeno jelly.

The restaurant kindly gave away free meals during the peak of the pandemic to healthcare workers.

Thanks to SF Gate for sharing the details and their GoFundMe which states “100% of funds collected will be used solely for the survival of the restaurants, to pay staff, and to support their families.”

Dottie’s True Blue Cafe shared the simple goodbye note on their website:

Sadly, Dottie’s didn’t survive the tough times brought on by the pandemic. We had to close our 6th Street doors for good. Thank you for your passion and appetite for so many years. You may not have heard the last from Dottie. She may be cooking up new ways to serve her favorite customers — cookbooks, private virtual cooking lessons, boxed baking mixes for some of your favorites … How does that sound? We’ll keep you posted — just drop your email here.
