Event Details

ADFS is proud to present the Oscar-nominated documentary by Raoul Peck: “I Am Not Your Negro”. The New York Times (2016) says “One of the best films you are likely to see this year.”

I Am Not Your Negro envisions the book James Baldwin never finished, a radical narration about race in America. Director Raoul Peck uses the writer’s original words, as read by actor Samuel L. Jackson. Alongside a trove of rich archival material, the film draws upon Baldwin’s notes on the lives and assassinations of his close friends: Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King, Jr., to bring an eloquent, personal perspective to the current racial narrative in America.

I Am Not Your Negro will screen FREE twice:
Wednesday, November 28, 2018
Doors open at 6:30 pm, Screening: 7 pm – 9 pm
Ellen Driscoll Playhouse, 325 Highland Ave. Piedmont

Saturday, December 1, 2018
3pm – 4:30 pm
The New Parkway Theater, 474 24th Street Oakland

The Oscar-nominated documentary connects the past of the Civil Rights movement to the present of #BlackLivesMatter. In plumbing the deep connections between the lives and assassinations of these three leaders, Baldwin and Peck have produced a work that challenges the very definition of what America stands for.
