Opera Movie Screening | SF Main Library

Merola Goes to the Movies is a new series at the SF Public Library that presents great opera-themed movies that have been captured on film.

Each film is preceded by a short, pre-screening talk by a Merola representative who will give an insider’s look at the opera and interesting facts about the making of the film.

All screenings start at 1 pm at the Koret Auditorium at the San Francisco Public Library Main Branch. Admission is free. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Screenings are recommended for ages 10 and older.

2006 Royal Opera House production featuring Anna Caterina Antonacci, Jonas Kaufmann, and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo. This opera is filled with love, obsession, bullfights, cigarette girls, and smugglers.

The tragic story of the unforgettable Carmen plays out with passionate intensity in a vibrant production that makes Bizet’s familiar score seem fresh and new.
