Yoshi’s San Francisco now offers free live music in The Lounge and restaurant seven nights a week as part of Yoshi’s Local Talent Series. Wednesday, January 25th features the Chris Amberger Trio followed by a late night Jazz Jam starting at 9:30pm

Sunday, January 22nd
Broken Strings

After nearly a year being apart, the Broken Strings will be playing Yoshi’s once again. In 2010 the Broken Strings preformed under the name “Ensemble Soulard” this time around they are back with old and new members, as well as a fresh set of gypsy jazz, classic swing and Latin tunes. The group features a rotating cast of – Nicholas Boots (lead guitar) Andrew Grant (guitar) Craig Jacobs (drums, washboard, clanky stuff) Tyden Binsted (upright boss), Mark Davis (accordion, mixed martial arts), and Conrad Seto (rhythm guitar, vocals).

NaJe curates the best of the great American songbook and beyond with a soulful, sultry voice heavily influenced by jazz greats – Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’ Day, and Julie London. She currently resides in San Francisco and has performed at top music venues and festivals throughout the country: Coda Jazz Supperclub, Yoshi’s Jazz Club, The Sambucca Jazz Café, The Athens Music and Film Festival, The Athens Jazz Festival, Chicago’s New Music Festival, The Cotton Club, The Fabulous 40 Watt, The Tongue and Groove, The Georgia Theatre, The Atomic Music Hall, The Cat’s Cradle, The Covered Dish, and The Velvet Elvis.

Saxophonist, band leader, composer and painter. A major force in the music scene of the San Francisco Bay area for the last 40 years, saxophonist Charles Unger is a musical institution. He is known for his exuberant style and talent, and for a stage show that is unforgettable.A regular performer at various San Francisco clubs, Charles is an innovator in the genres of Jazz, R&B and World Beat.

Chris Amberger Trio & Jazz Jam

Chris Amberger’s dexterity on the bass has traveled wide and deep. Many remember him as the house bassist at the Keystone Korner in San Francisco, ferociously pushing the limits of his instrument while maintaining a strong groove with the likes of Sam Rivers, Art Pepper, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Elvin Jones, Freddie Hubbard, Dexter Gordon, and Horace Silver. After his dinner set, if you’re a musician, come on out and jam with the band.

Beso Negro has an all-star lineup of internationally experienced musicians who have brought drive and passion to Gypsy Jazz. Using Spain (instead of France) as the backdrop for their music, Beso Negro has transformed the genre into a vibrant new beast. Darker, faster, more danceable, more blues, more Gypsy, Beso Negro’s indelible fingerprint brings Jazz Manouche to a new generation and to the 21st century.

Sandra Aran Quartet

Ms Aran made her performace debut at age 5 in her native Mexico city. In 1991 she was accepted to the National School of Music in Mexico City where she studied classical piano, composition and voice for the following 5 years. In 1994 she also enrolled in the Jazz Studies Program at the Superior School of Music where she formed her first Jazz Quartet: Art Deco. In 1996, she joined forces with other jazz singers in Mexico to form the vocal octet, “Cuicanitl”, with whom she opened for blues legend B.B. King as well as for jazz great George Benson during his Mexico City concert in 1997. They released an independent album,”Solo Voices” to critical acclaim in 1999.

Michael LaMacchia, was born in Kenosha Wisconsin, he moved to San Francisco at 18 and began his musical career. A gifted guitarist and prolific composer there is always a buzz in Michael’s music with a feeling of freshness and passion. Bridging musical worlds together Michael creates a sound that is personal and unique, drawing from experiences of Jazz, Brazilian, African, Latin, Classical and Pop. Some fun Band moments include opening for Buddy Guy, John Corbett and the late great Mel Torme to name just a few.
