Join us for a free film screening of French director Jean-Luc Godard’s science fiction noir classic. The film follows secret agent Lemmy Caution on his mission to destroy a tyrannical computer that rules over the futuristic city of Alphaville. Shot in night-time contemporary Paris, the film’s stylish evocation of a dystopian future blends science fiction, noir, and comic book elements with the director’s ironic, deadpan humor. Starring Eddie Constantine, Anna Karina, and Akim Tamiroff. In French with English subtitles. NR, 99 mins., 1965.

Alphaville’s screening is part of the San Francisco Public Library’s SF by the Bay Science Fiction & Fantasy Celebration (Feb.-Apr. 2020).

NOTE: The screening takes place on Wednesday, February 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Main Library’s Latino Room (Lower Level).
