Cow Palace is Now Evacuation Site for Horses & Livestock

Historic concert and events venue now helping out animals evacuated from UC Santa Cruz area and San Mateo County.

As a result of the CZU Lightning Complex Fires, the Cow Palace Arena and Event Center was activated by San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services on August 20, 2020 to open their facility to accommodate livestock and horses that are being evacuated from the affected areas.

Animals will be coming from the UC Santa Cruz area and San Mateo County.  They started receiving animals the morning of August 21st.

UPDATE: At its peak, the Cow Palace sheltered 221 animals including llamas, goats, horses, donkeys, chickens and peacocks. On August 26th some animals (including Ulysses the horse and 27 of his friends) started to head home.
