San Francisco’s legendary Julius’ Castle is getting ready for a comeback. The historic Telegraph Hill restaurant, located at 1541 Montgomery St., famous for its castle-like design and sweeping city views, is expected to reopen September 2026 after nearly two decades closed.

Originally opened in 1924, Julius’ Castle became a glamorous SF hotspot in the 1970s and ’80s, attracting Hollywood stars like Marlon Brando, Robert Redford, and Cary Grant. It closed in 2007, but new owner Paul Scott spent years restoring the cliffside landmark and bringing it back to life.

The reopening has been a long road, with construction delays, a renovation fire, permit hurdles, and neighborhood concerns. But the goal has always been the same: save the iconic space as a restaurant instead of turning it into condos.

No word yet on the chef, menu, or exact opening date, but one of San Francisco’s most unique dining destinations is almost ready for its next chapter.
